Top Ten

This is a new segment of my blog. It's called Top Ten (hence the title above) and it's completely random. So this, folks, is today's top ten.

1. Gerber daisies-- especially a bouquet of bright yellow, fiery orange, and hot pink ones.

2. Ford Mustang-- really super cool in the 60's, not so cool in the 70's, 80's, & 90's but then really super cool again in 2005. Mark my words, I WILL have a Mustang one day and I'm projecting it to happen within 5 years.

3. A Baskin-Robbins double scoop with Peanut Butter & Chocolate on bottom and Daiquiri Ice on top in a sugar cone.

4. Cool, trendy coffee houses with an open mic poetry night. I actually did this once or twice back in college but will probably never do it again. I still think it's cool though.

5. The Todd.

6. Gameboy. I could seriously play Gameboy for hours... in fact I have. Aspen has a pink Gameboy which she has renamed to Gamegirl. I think I should probably patent that name and make some money from Nintendo.

7. These songs on repeat:
Jackson: Johnny Cash
99 Red Balloons: Nena
Fat Bottomed Girls: Queen
Under Pressure: Queen & David Bowie
Dancing With Myself: Billy Idol

8. San Diego. If I had gobs of money I would totally buy a house in San Diego and either live there or visit there all the time.

9. My ipod... complete with Vanilla Ice, 2Pac... and Josh Groban

10. Chick lit. Meg Cabot, Sophie Kinsella, and Sarah Dessen are among my favorites.

Memorial Day

When I was a child, Memorial Day didn’t mean much to me. It pretty much meant a nice three-day weekend with a day off from school. As I entered my teenage years Memorial Day signified the day the swimming pool opened at my parents’ condo in Park City and was something greatly anticipated each year. I have finally come to realize what, in my opinion, is the "real" significance for Memorial Day.

It is a day to pay tribute to loved ones we have lost. It is a day to adorn the graves of those same people. It is a day when the view of the cemetery is absolutely breathtaking. It is a day when many streets are lined up and down with American flags. It is a day for reflection. I choose to use this day as a day of hope. Hope to become a better person; hope also to remember the wonderful qualities of loved ones and hope yet again to try to emulate those qualities to the best of my ability.

Tin Lizzie!

When will you see an 80 year old truck sitting in the bed of a 38 year old truck? When Jared and Andy are up to their usual shenanigans... that's when! And seriously, how cool is this?
Jared and Andy picked up this Ford Model T (a.k.a. Tin Lizzie) on Saturday and were two giddy little boys the rest of the day. They have high hopes for their new little Rat Rod but even if it stays a bed ornament forever- it looks great in there!

That was then...

This is now... 7 years later!

American Idol

I am not afraid at all to admit that I am an American Idol addict. In fact, I say it quite proudly-- I just love it! I have *FAITHFULLY* watched American Idol since season 1 (and on a side note, Kelly Clarkson was my fave). One year, the American Idol tour came to Salt Lake and I even went to that.

Aspen watches with me occasionally and it's so cute to hear her commentary on the contestants' outfits, song choice, etc. In fact, one time while watching the show (she was a mere 4 years old) after one contestant sang, Aspen looked at me and said, "Well, I wonder what Simon will say now!" I laughed hysterically. More recently I came upon her playing "Barbie Idol" in her bedroom and one of the boy Barbies was, of course, Simon! Needless to say, I called my mom and had her bring my New Kids on the Block doll stage so Aspen could have a real stage for her Barbie Idol contest (thanks for holding onto my NKOTB paraphenilia, Mom... I thought it would be of some value one day)!

I always look so forward to the upcoming season of American Idol however, it is okay that this season has come to an end because now I will have a little more free time and not be so glued to the t.v.

My first blog!

So I've thought about creating a blog for awhile but for some reason I feel a little *WEIRD* about it. I've always enjoyed writing but I've never been one to share the things I write. It's hard for me to put myself out there for the world to see. However, a blog seems like a fun thing to do and it's a very "in" thing to do. Clearly, I'm a follower so here goes nothing!
